How to Upload a YouTube Video to the Portal

To upload a new YouTube video to the portal, perform the following steps:

  1. Go to the portal by clicking here.

  2. Click on 'UPLOAD VIDEO'. The video upload page is displayed.

  3. Go to the 'EXTERNAL CONTENT' tab.

  4. Go to the 'COMPANY' field and enter the name of the company that will be defined as the owner of this video. Relevant results will be displayed in a drop-down list from which you can choose from.

    Note: If you do not have access to any additional Affiliate Companies, this field will be set by default to the Company that owns your user.

    Note: If the 'Set Company' field in your Company context menu is active, this field will automatically set the owner company to your selected company context. Alternately, if the 'Set Company' field in your Company context menu is inactive, selecting an owning company for the video will be mandatory. For further details, please see Company Context Menu.

  5. Go to the 'VIDEO TYPE' field and verify that 'VOD' video type is selected.

    Note: This field will apply to all videos being uploaded in this browser session. By default, this field is set to 'VOD'.

  6. Go to the 'ENCODING PROFILE' field and enter the name of an encoding profile that will be used to create appropriate video renditions for your uploaded videos. Relevant results will be displayed in a drop-down list from which you can choose from.

    Note: This field is commonly set to 'AOL Videos Renditions' according to your default Company settings. If you do not have any default Encoding profile set in your Company, this field will remain blank and require you to select an appropriate Encoding profile in order to continue.

    Note: If you do not have any previously created encoding profiles, please refer to How to create an encoding profile.

  7. Enter your YouTube video URL address in the 'Enter external source url' field, then press enter/return or click on the arrow icon 
    (NUI_Videos_Upload_010.jpeg). Your YouTube video file is added to the upload list.

    Note: The upload field will be activated only after a Company and an Encoding Profile have been defined for the upload.

    Note: When entering a YouTube video URL, the platform will automatically identify the address and upload this video as a YouTube video to the Portal using a YouTube player.

  8. Go to each video and click on 'Add metadata' to add additional information about the video. The selected video edit page will open in a new browser tab, displaying the 'BASIC INFORMATION' tab.

    Note: You must enter at least a 'Title' and one 'IAB Category' for each video in order to save your videos to the Portal.

  9. Optional: Go back to the upload page to add short additional information to your video to a simplified metadata area that will appear after you click on 'Add metadata'. Then proceed to step 15.

  10. Enter a title for your video in the 'VIDEO TITLE' field. This will be the name of the video that will be displayed within the Portal and on "Click to Play" players.

  11. Go to the 'DESCRIPTION' -> 'Long' field and enter a description for your video. This description is displayed in the Video Library page and is used to help editors find relevant videos for their posts according to the textual search.

  12. Under the 'IAB CATEGORY' field, click on 'Add Category' and select a relevant IAB category vertical that will apply to this video.

    Note: At least one IAB Category must be selected to save this video. For further details, please see How to Add an IAB Category to Your Video.

  13. Optional: Apply any additional optional metadata fields according to the field and description tables provided here: Video edit page optional fields.

  14. Optional: Click on 'SAVE & NEXT' to save your video and switch to the next video edit page.

  15. Click on 'SAVE'. Your video is saved and the 'BASIC INFORMATION' tab of the video details page is displayed.

    Note: The 'Save' button will not be available if you did not enter a 'Title' and select at least one 'IAB Category'.

    Note: When the encoding process is completed, a preview of your video will be displayed in the details page.

    Note: When the encoding process is completed, the 'Upload State' of the video will change automatically to 'Ready' allowing the video to be syndicated according to the video's assigned Seller Rule.

 

 

 

Video Edit Page Optional Fields
The following tables describe all the available metadata optional fields although not all might be visible under your company and/or user permissions. We have split the complete list of fields into sections according to the video edit page tabs. Each section features a table that describes the relevant fields available under that tab.

BASIC INFORMATION

The following table describes all the optional fields under the 'BASIC INFORMATION' tab.

Field name Description
DESCRIPTION - SHORT Allows you to add an additional short description for your video. This description is available both in the video details page and also accessible when searching via our API.
TRANSCRIPT

Allows you to add a transcript that will be associated with this video.

Note: The transcript makes it easy for editors to search and find your video according to it's spoken context. For example, a user can type a catch phrase as a search query to find a popular video containing that phrase.

LANGUAGE Allows you to search and select a spoken language in this video.
SUBTITLES Allows you to upload or link subtitles to your video. The subtitle language selector field allows users to find your video according to it's supported subtitle language.

Note: For more information, please see How to Add a Subtitle File/URL to the Video Upload.
SELLER RULE This field is set by default to your Company's Default Seller rule that controls how your videos are syndicated in the Portal. Clicking this field allows you to select a different Seller rule that will apply to this video. For further details, please see What are Seller Rules.
THUMBNAILS When uploading a video, a high quality thumbnail will be automatically generated for it. This field allows you to upload a custom thumbnail if you want a different image to be placed on your video.

Note: Thumbnails are displayed in the Portal and on "Click-to-play" Players. For further details, please see How to upload a custom thumbnail to your video.

 

MORE DATA

The following table describes all the optional fields under the 'MORE DATA' tab.

Field name Description
AVAILABILITY DATE Allows you to define a time-frame, in which the uploaded video will be available for syndication. You may select a time zone and also define a required 'Start' and/or 'End' date (or select 'No end date').

Note: Not applying a 'Start' or 'End' date will make your video always available for syndication and use.

Note: The video will not be available for syndication to publishers before the 'Start date' or after the 'End date'. In this case, any players referencing this video will display an error message. 
CLICK URL Allows you to define a website URL address to which viewers will be redirected to when clicking on the video. 

Note: This setting will override any click through settings defined on the Player level.
CLICK-THROUGH DELAY Allows you to define a numeric value in seconds that will delay the activation of the click URL. For example, when setting this field to 10, this means that the 'CLICK URL' address will only redirect viewers after reaching the 10 second marker in the video playback.

Note: This feature can be overridden by the viewer by simply seeking through the video playback, and positioning the player head to a timestamp that is either equal or more than the defined value. In the context of the previous example, moving the playback indicator to the 10 second marker immediately after the player loads, will enable the click URL to apply.
OVERLAY URL Allows you to add custom overlay URL, which will be displayed on the video.
LOGO

Allows you to upload a watermark brand logo that will be displayed as an overlay on top of the video. The logo will also be displayed in the Video details page.

Note: You can add different logos to each video.

THIRD PARTY TRACK URLS Allows you to define custom third party tracking URLs that will be triggered by the player in the following events:
  • Impression - Enter a 3rd party URL for tracking impressions.
  • View - Enter a 3rd party URL for tracking views.
  • Click - Enter a 3rd party URL for tracking clicks.
  • 25% - Enter a 3rd party URL for tracking when viewers reach 25% of the video playback.
  • 50% - Enter a 3rd party URL for tracking when viewers reach 50% of the video playback.
  • 75% - Enter a 3rd party URL for tracking when viewers reach 75% of the video playback.
  • 100% - Enter a 3rd party URL for tracking when viewers complete playback of the whole video.
GEO CLICKS

Allows you to add 3rd party tracking URLs that will be triggered in specified countries. The available tracker URL fields are:

  • Country - enter the name of the country, for which you set specific tracking URL.
  • Click URL - enter the website URL address, to which viewers in the specified country will be redirected to when clicking on the video.
  • Clickable Time In Seconds - enter the required time in seconds, which will delay the activation of the click URL redirection.
  • Impression - Enter a 3rd party URL for tracking impressions.
  • View - Enter a 3rd party URL for tracking views.
  • Click - Enter a 3rd party URL for tracking clicks.
  • 25% - Enter a 3rd party URL for tracking when viewers reach 25% of the video playback.
  • 50% - Enter a 3rd party URL for tracking when viewers reach 50% of the video playback.
  • 75% - Enter a 3rd party URL for tracking when viewers reach 75% of the video playback.
  • 100% - Enter a 3rd party URL for tracking when viewers complete playback of the whole video.

YOUTUBE METADATA

Allows you to add custom metadata, which will be associated with your video when exported to the YouTube platform.

EXTERNAL CONTENT ID

Allows you to add a 3rd party video ID that will be associated with this video.

CONTENT LIFECYCLE Allows you to characterize the content of your video as one of the following options:
  • Evergreen - A video content is always topical and not specific to any time period.
  • Fast-Breaking - For the latest news content.
  • Live - For live feeds.

Note: This field does not apply any additional logic to the video and is only used as a metadata.

AUDIENCE GENDER Allows you to select the required target gender/s for this video according to the following options:
  • All.
  • Female.
  • Male.

AUDIENCE AGE

Allows you to select the appropriate audience age according to the following options:

  • Kids - The video is appropriate for kids up to the age of 9.
  • Tweens - The video is appropriate for kids nearing puberty, between the ages of 10-11.
  • Teens - The video is appropriate for teenagers, between the ages of 12-20.
  • Adults - The video is appropriate for adults, between the ages of 21-54.
  • Senior - The video is appropriate for seniors, aged 55 and older.

Note: you may select single/multiple options or none.

RATING

Allows you to select the appropriate video parental guideline rating from a drop down menu according to the following options:

  • Adults Only
  • Age 10 And Above.
  • Age 14 And Above.
  • Age 17 And Above.
  • Age 7 And Above.
  • For All Ages.
  • For All Children.
  • Not Rated.

DESCRIPTORS

Allows you to assign selected descriptors for your video according to the following options: 

  • Fantasy Violence.
  • Age Restricted.
  • Sexual Content.
  • Suggestive Dialogue.
  • Violence.
  • Coarse Language.
  • No Descriptors.

Note: you may select single/multiple options or none.

CATEGORY Allows you to add custom category metadata to your video. This field is not linked to any standardized category list and allows you to enter any word. Multiple categories should be entered using comma separators.
LOCATION Allows you to enter the location in which the video was filmed.
LOCALES Allows you to add locales to your video.
CREDIT Allows you to add name/s for the video credits.
COPYRIGHT Allows you to add custom copyright information.
PRODUCER Allows you to add name/s of the video's producer/s.
KEYWORDS Allows you to add custom keyword metadata to your video. This field is not linked to any standardized keyword list and allows you to enter any word. Multiple keywords should be entered using comma separators.

Note: When importing videos from YouTube, this field will be automatically populated by the tags defined on a YouTube video.
AUTHOR Allows you to add name/s of the video's author/s.
CUSTOM ATTRIBUTES Enter any custom attributes (parameters and values) using the 'Name' and 'Value' fields. You can then use these attributes to search for the video.
TOPICS Allows you to add additional metadata fields that are relevant for your video, by entering any topic or tag name in the 'Name' field and then entering values for this topic. The topics will then be added into the platform search engine for future searching.
CONCEPTS Allows you to add multiple concepts as free text.
TAXONOMY Allows you to assign custom taxonomy attributes to your video.

 

RESTRICTIONS

The following table describes all the optional fields under the 'RESTRICTIONS' tab.

Field name Description
GEO RESTRICTIONS Allows you to either whitelist or blacklist countries where this video can or cannot be played back.
DEVICE RESTRICTIONS

Allows you to either whitelist or blacklist specific mobile devices that will be allowed or prevented from playing back the video.

VIDEO RESTRICTION -
ENABLE OVERRIDE

Selecting this check box allows you to apply specific video restrictions directly to this video. When activated, the following 'AVAILABILITY SCOPE' and 'ACCESSIBILITY' fields will be displayed.

  • AVAILABILITY SCOPE - Select one of the following options from a drop down menu:
    • Everywhere - Makes this video available for viewing on any Portal as long as the user has access permissions to it.
    • Only on my white label - Makes this video available for viewing only on your white label (your private branded exchange).

  • ACCESSIBILITY - Select one of the following options from a drop down menu:
    • Public - All users (in either the portal or white label) will be able to view this video.
    • Private - Only you and administrator users (in either the portal or white label) will be able to view this video.
    • Black List/White List - Selecting this option allows you to define companies and company groups, which will be either able or not able to view your video depending on the selected option (in either the portal or white label).

 
MONETIZATION

The following table describes all the optional fields under the 'MONETIZATION' tab.

Field name Description
DISABLE ADS Allows you to disable advertisement from being displayed on this specific video when it is played back in a player.

Note: This field will override any Player ad settings when playing back this video.
CUE POINTS Allows you to set custom ad opportunity breakpoints in seconds for your video.
