How to Apply or Change AD OPPORTUNITIES

What are Ad Opportunity Settings?

Ad Opportunity Settings are a series of fields that define the ad experience you want viewers to have when viewing the Player. This area in the player controls how many ads a viewer can see, how many content videos will be shown before, including more advanced settings such as Mid-Roll and Overlay timing you may what to apply.

  3. Under the 'AD SETTINGS' tab, go to the 'AD OPPORTUNITIES' area and apply the required fields according to the following options:

    Field Name  Description
    Ad Strategy

Click on this field and select the required monetization method from the drop down list according to the following options:

    • Ad Set-based - Selecting this option will set the Player to be monetized using our Ad Set and Ad Campaign logic.
    • Content-based - Selecting this option will set the Player to be monetized using Targeting Rules.

Note: Targeting Rule monetization is set up by our Sales Engineering team.
    Pod size

The pod size defines how many ads will play in an ad opportunity (both pre-rolls and mid-roll). Click on this field and select the required number of ads to play (between 1 to 11) from the drop down menu.

Note: An ad opportunity is a term used for describing a container that holds ads. If the player is configured to run ads, the Pod size defines how many ads will be played before starting or continuing the content video's playback (depending on if it's a pre-roll or a mid-roll).

Note: For further details please see What Are Ad Opportunities and Pod Sizes?

    Preroll interleave

The preroll interleave is used to define how many content videos should be played before running a pre-roll. Click on this field and select the required number of content videos to play (between 0 to 4) from the drop down menu.

For example: Setting this field to 0 means no pre-rolls will run on your player. Setting the same field to 3 will cause the player to play a pre-roll immediately upon loading, then 3 consecutive content videos, then a pre-roll again etc.

Note: For further details please see What does the Pre-roll interleave field do?

    Midroll timing

This field is used to define when during the playback of a content video a mid-roll will be run. Enter a percentage (%) or time definition (in the following syntax 'hh:mm:ss') to define when a mid-roll will be run.

Note: It is possible to apply multiple mid-roll timing definitions using semi-colons. For example: 25%;00:00:50;90%.

Note: For further details please see, How to use Mid-roll and Overlay timing.

    Overlay timing

This field is used to define when during the playback of a content video a VAST overlay will be displayed to the viewer. Enter a percentage (%) or time definition (in the following syntax 'hh:mm:ss') to define when a VAST overlay will be displayed.

Note: It is possible to apply multiple overlay timing definitions using semi-colons. For example: 25%;00:00:50;90%.

Note: For further details please see, How to use Mid-roll and Overlay timing.

    Max ads

This field is used to define the maximum number of ads the player will run in each loaded player session. Enter a value to limit the number of pre-rolls and mid-rolls that will be run in the player to improve the viewer experience.

For example: Setting this field to 3, will allow the player to run up to 3 ads. After that, the player will continue content video playback without interruptions.

Note: This limit is applied only to a single player load instance. If the web page the player is placed in is refreshed or reloaded, the limit is reset.

Note: For further details see, What does the Max ads field do?

    Strict site check for ads

Selecting this check box will allow ads to run only if the player's web page URL is identical to the URL parameter value that is defined in the player embed tag.

Note: This is most commonly used when an ad server rejects calls that come from an iFrame.

Don't play content when ad blocked

Selecing this check box will prevent the player from loading content videos if an Ad Blocking technology is identified. In this case, the viewer will be displayed with a request message to approve this domain for ad requests.

Note: For further details, please see How to Prevent Content from Playing when an Ad Blocker is Active.

    Use SSAI if Possible

Selecting this check box will allow our Server Side Ad Insertion technology to stitch ads directly into the content videos playing back by this Player from our server's side, allowing the ads to bypass any ad blockers on the viewer's browser.

Note: To activate this feature you will need to uphold several additional requirements. For further details, please see How to Setup Server Side Ad Insertion with UpLynk (Overview).

  4. Click on 'SAVE'. Your player ad settings are applied to this player.
