How to Setup FTP Import

What is FTP Import?

FTP Import is a mass upload solution aimed for partners that want to host their video files on our platforms servers. If you wish to upload your video content via FTP, our support team can provide you with an FTP folder location to which you can push your content video files and metadata.

Important! To perform this method of content ingestion, you must provide your support representative with an example of the .xml metadata file structure in advance. This will be used to create a transformation protocol to convert your metadata to our internal format.

Requirements

To use MRSS FTP you will need the following two types of files for each content video you wish to upload:

  1. Content Video file - The actual content video with a video extensions such as: .mov, .mp4, .flv, .avi etc.

Note: We support all types of video files.

  2. Metadata .xml file - The content video's associated metadata file that contains all the information on the video. This file must comply with our metadata file format. For further details see Metadata File Format.

Important! The metadata file name should match that of the video file, and end with .xml.

Note: The minimum two metadata fields for a valid .xml file are: Video Name and Description. We recommend providing as many fields as possible so that the content is easily searchable by you and others once imported into the system.

For Example:

  • Video File130722waitingforrudd1.mp4
  • Metadata File130722waitingforrudd1.mp4.xml

Once uploaded, you can search for your videos and edit the metadata with any additional metadata you wish to add.

Metadata XML File Format

The minimum metadata required is video title and description. You can also provide keywords, long descriptions, transcripts, and any additional metadata, such as author, actors, topics, categories, and more.

Note: If you intend to upload the same video file multiple times your minimal .xml file must include a <guid> property and unique value.
