Closed Captions Customization Options

Our closed captions settings screen allows you to customize how the video's closed captions are displayed.

 

Closed Captions Elements

The following diagram explains the elements you can modify using the Closed captions settings:

  • Closed captions window - The window is an element strip the crosses the whole width of the player. You can customize it's color, opacity and position in the player.
  • Closed captions background -  The background is a box element that encompasses the text. You can customize it's color and opacity.
  • Closed captions text - The text element is the actual closed captions text. You can customize it's color, opacity, style, size and capitalization.

 

 

Closed Captions Viewer Customization Options

The following table describes the available display options your viewers can apply to the closed captions displayed while viewing your video.

Customization Option Available Values Examples
Font family

Allows you to select a custom front for the Closed captions text according to the following options:

  • Arilel, Sans Serif (default).
  • Georgia, Serif.
  • Lucida Snas, Sans Serif.
  • Tahome, Serif.
  • Times New Roman, Serif.
  • Terbuchet, Sans Serif.
  • Verdana, Sans Serif.
 
Font color

Allows you to select a custom front color for the Closed captions text according to the following options:

  • White.
  • Yellow (default).
  • Green.
  • Cyan.
  • Blue.
  • Magenta.
  • Red.
  • Black.
 
Font size

Allows you to select a custom front size for the Closed captions text according to the following options:

  • 50%.
  • 75%.
  • 100%.
  • 150% (default).
  • 200%.
  • 300%.
  • 400%.
 
Background color

Allows you to select a custom background color for the Closed captions box according to the following options:

  • White.
  • Yellow.
  • Green.
  • Cyan.
  • Blue.
  • Magenta.
  • Red.
  • Black (default).
 
Background opacity

Allows you to select a custom background opacity for the Closed captions box according to the following options:

  • 0% - Fully transparent.
  • 25%.
  • 50%.
  • 75%.
  • 100% - Solid color (default).
 
Window color

Allows you to select a custom window color for the strip that holds the Closed captions box according to the following options:

  • White (default).
  • Yellow.
  • Green.
  • Cyan.
  • Blue.
  • Magenta.
  • Red.
  • Black.
 
Window opacity

Allows you to select a custom window opacity for the strip that holds the Closed captions box according to the following options:

  • 0% - Fully transparent (default).
  • 25%.
  • 50%.
  • 75%.
  • 100% - Solid color.
 
Character edge style

Allows you to select a custom front character edge style for the Closed captions text according to the following options:

  • None (default).
  • Drop shadow.
  • Raised.
  • Depressed.
  • Outline.

Note: All effects appear in black so you must have a contrasting background to see the differences.

 
Font opacity

Allows you to select a custom front opacity for the Closed captions text according to the following options:

  • 25% - Semi transparent.
  • 50%.
  • 75%.
  • 100% - Solid color (default).
 
Capitalization

Allows you to select if all letters in the Closed captions text will be capitilized according to the following options:

  • Only when needed - (default)
  • All caps - All leters will be capizilized.
 
Location on screen

Allows you to choose where to place the Closed captions text on your player according to the following options:

  • Bottom (default).
  • Top
